When Is Mehir Given?

There is no single payment time for mehir (also known as mahr) that applies to everyone. When it is given can be determined by mutual agreement between the couple. The mehir can be given in full at the time of marriage, or part of it can be paid upfront and the remainder at a later date.

Based on payment timing, mehir is handled in two ways:

  • Prompt mehir: Paid at the time of marriage or at an agreed date shortly after.
  • Deferred mehir: Payment is left to a specific date, a schedule, or a future event such as the end of the marriage.

It is not mandatory to give the entire mehir in one payment. Taking their financial situation into account, couples can also agree on an installment-based or regular payment plan. If a specific date has been agreed for payment, the mehir should be paid on that date. Leaving the date unspecified, however, can lead to uncertainty about the payment time later on.

For this reason, it is important to clearly determine not only the amount of the mehir, but also when the first payment will be made, whether payment will be made in one lump sum or in installments, and when the process will be completed.

MehirApp records the mehir amount and payment plan the couple has agreed on, helping the process run in a trackable way. Mehir payments can be made through the Mehir Wallet; payments made in money, gold, or silver, as well as the remaining mehir amount, can be monitored within the same structure. Solutions such as MehirBES (private pension) and Mehir Life Insurance also help support the mehir process with savings and family security.

This way, mehir does not remain a promise with an uncertain date; it becomes a clear, sustainable financial plan suited to the couple's financial circumstances.

Plan not only the amount of your mehir but also its payment timing together, and track the process with MehirApp.
