What Is Mehr-i Muaccel?
Mehr-i muaccel (prompt mehir, paid at the time of marriage) is the mehir agreed to be paid at the time of marriage or shortly after. It can be set as money, gold, silver, jewelry, or any other asset of economic value.
The type, amount, and delivery date of the prompt mehir should be clearly recorded.
What Is Mehr-i Müeccel?
Mehr-i müeccel (deferred mehir) is the mehir set to be paid at a future date. The entire mehir can be deferred, or part can be paid upfront with the remainder planned as deferred.
When setting deferred mehir, the payment date, installment amounts, and payment terms should be clearly written down.
What Is Mehr-i Müsemma?
Mehr-i müsemma (specified mehir) is the mehir whose type and amount the couple explicitly agrees on during or after the nikah (Islamic marriage ceremony). For example, 50 grams of gold, a specific sum of money, or a specific number of jewelry pieces can be designated as mehr-i müsemma.

What Is Mehr-i Misil?
Mehr-i misil (customary equivalent mehir) is the type of mehir that comes into play when no mehir amount was set during the nikah, or when the mehir that was set is not considered valid. In determining the amount, the mehir given to women in her family and to women in similar circumstances can be taken into account.
Mehir can also be based on money, gold, silver, or other assets of economic value. Whichever type is chosen, the amount should be realistic, clear, and payable.
